Adolescent Education Groups
The goal of FPCC's Adolescent Eduaction Group Program is to improve the health and social well-being of Clallam County adolescents by reducing teen pregnancy and risk-taking behaviors. The program is intended to increase youth awareness and use of clinical reproductive health services, improve adolescent's knowledge of unsafe behaviors, and thereby improve resiliency and decision-making skills.
Weekly education group sessions are offered at middle and high schools throughout Clallam County. Education groups are facilitated by trained FPCC female (for girls) and male (for boys) Health Educators and school counselors. Topics discussed in the education groups include, but are not limited to: healthy relationships, drugs and alcohol, sexual abuse, assertiveness, risky behaviors, suicide prevention, peer pressure, communication, positive decision-making skills, consequential thinking, sexuality issues, sexually transmitted infections, birth control options (high school), and how to access support services.
Baby Think It Over ®
The RealCare® Baby infant simulator is a lifelike, life-size doll with realistic computerized responses, which allows teens to experience some of the demands of infant care. The infant simulators help explore the emotional, financial, and social consequences of being a teen parent. When the baby cries, the teenager must determine if the baby is hungry, needs burping, rocking, or a diaper change. The baby's computer records the number of times the baby was cared for, any rough handling, lack of head support, or wrong positioning. After spending a few days and nights with the Baby Think It Over infant simulator, many teens realize they are not ready to take on the pressures and responsibilities of being a parent.
Detention Prevention: A Second Chance
FPCC provides services to youth who are incarcerated at the Clallam County Juvenile Detention Facility. Education and clinical services are provided weekly. Classroom education is modeled after the Adolescent Education Groups curriculum, but with a greater focus on positive decision-making and consequential thinking.
Youth Suicide Prevention
FPCC's Youth Suicide Prevention Program strives to educate youth about what they can do to help themselves or a friend in need. The program emphasizes showing you care, asking the question, and getting help.
